Wayson Family Chiropractic FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Chiropractic adjustments at Wayson Family Chiropractic are remarkably safe, backed by extensive research showing superior safety compared to back surgery, muscle relaxers, or aspirin for spinal pain treatment. Our Gonstead-trained doctors use precise, biologically sound techniques without drugs or surgery.
How do I know if I have a subluxation?
Subluxations often exist without obvious symptoms, similar to early tooth decay. The best way to know is through our thorough Gonstead examination, including visualization, instrumentation, palpation, and posture analysis to detect spinal misalignments affecting nerve function.
Can I adjust myself?
Technically, it’s possible. However, we never recommend it since it’s so dangerous to do. Although you might be able to manipulate your joints in such a way to hear an audible pop, that doesn’t mean you are doing it correctly. We have had previous patients get their neck stuck from doing this themselves. It is highly discouraged to “adjust” yourself since you are probably doing it wrong.
Will you adjust my entire spine?
No. As Gonstead chiropractors, we carefully analyze your spine using our 5-component system to adjust only the specific segments that need correction. “Cracking everything” lacks precision and doesn’t produce the lasting results that targeted adjustments achieve.
Why do newborns need chiropractic care?
The birth process can create spinal stress in infants, contributing to colic, sleep issues, ear infections, or feeding difficulties. Dr. Sara Cahill uses extremely gentle Gonstead techniques to check for and correct these early subluxations safely.
Do I have a slipped disc?
How many adjustments will I need?
Every patient is unique, but acute conditions often require more frequent initial visits to stabilize healing, then transition to maintenance. Your chiropractor will create a personalized plan based on your exam findings, response to care, and health goals.
Does insurance cover chiropractic care?
It depends. We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare supplements. Our team verifies your benefits before treatment so you understand coverage, copays, and visit limits from your first appointment.
Can I get chiropractic care after back surgery?
Absolutely post-surgical patients often benefit from stabilizing adjacent spinal segments. Our Gonstead approach carefully avoids surgically altered areas while addressing instability, scar tissue effects, and compensatory patterns above/below the surgical site.
